Club Activities. The Club’s activities are divided into two areas-Operations and Projects.

Operations. These are the business functions, social activities, and associated expenses of the Club. They are our meetings, Club administration, supplies, internal awards, guest speaker meals and honorariums, and social events such as our annual Christmas and Valentines parties, and the summer picnic. We raise money internally to pay for these Club operations through things such as Club dues (currently $110/ year), meal and attendance fees. These funds form the budget operations account and are kept separate from project account funds.

Projects. These are our service activities in the four areas of Americanism, Youth Programs, Community Service, and Prevention of Child Abuse.  They are planned and conducted by our Club’s various committees. Some of the more significant and recurring projects are:

·         Blue Pinwheel Gardens. During April each year, the club establishes and maintains Blue Pinwheel Gardens in the Carlisle area to show its support for Child Abuse Prevention Month and to increase awareness of this important issue.

·         Youth of the Year Award. At one of the Club’s meetings, we honor and award the outstanding student of the year from Carlisle, Boiling Springs, and Big Spring High Schools with a grant to help offset the costs of postsecondary education.

·         Christmas Bell-Ringing. For one day during the Christmas season, the Club rings the Salvation Army Kettle Bell at a local business establishment.

·         One Nation Under God Breakfast. This Service to Seniors breakfast is conducted at Cumberland Crossings and hosts elderly residents from throughout the community.

·         Give a Kid a Flag to Wave. Children attending the opening ceremonies of Carlisle Summerfair are given a small American flag by members from the Club. We assemble on Dickinson College’s Rush Campus and then spread out across the campus giving flags to children.

·         Flags on the Square. On selected holidays our Club, in concert with Carlisle Rotary, put out and pick up the tall American Flags that line High and Hanover Streets. We assemble on North Hanover Street across from Market Cross Pub.

·         Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (A. C. E.) Award. At one of the Club’s meetings, we honor and award a youth from Carlisle, Boiling Springs, and Big Spring High Schools that meet the criteria for the A.C.E. Award with a grant to help offset the costs of postsecondary education.

·         Proudly We Hail. The Club presents a plaque to an organization or individual that displays the Flag in a unique and dignified manner.

·         Freedom Shrines. In selected local schools, the Club develops and maintains patriotic historical displays.

·         Grants of Funds. Club members and the Board approve various grants to worthy local organizations and activities. Some examples are Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties and S.P.Y. (Supportive Partnerships for Youth).
